What is web hosting?

Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth from a provider on a month by month basis so a user can publish a website or other web related information

What is a domain name?

A domain name is used to assign a name and a TLD (Top Level Domain) to an IP (Internet Protocol) address.
Example: saleiz.com
This is used to redirect a user to an assigned IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is basically the address for a website and is used to locate it. Using IP (Internet Protocol) address would be too hard so domain names we’re put into place to make finding websites easier.

How do I register a domain name?

Registering a domain name is very simple. First we must decide on a name to use and find out if it’s in use or not. Using a WHOIS server we can find out if the domain name is registered or not.

Once we find out if the domain name is registered or not, we’ll then proceed to a registrar. This is we’re we’ll register a domain name

What exactly is bandwidth?

Bandwidth (also referred to as transfer) is the amount of data that your web host allows your site to send in a month.

Each character that your website sends out takes up a byte. Images can be as large as 100,000 bytes, and downloads can easily reach sizes of 10,000,000 bytes. To that end, bandwidth transfer per month is usually allocated by gigabytes - one gigabyte is 1 billion bytes.

If your site does exceed your monthly bandwidth allowance, your host usually notifies you for any futher assistant.

What exactly is webspace?

Webspace is the amount of disk space your web host gives you.

Every single character that appears on your website has to be stored somewhere. It is this disk space that grants you such storage space. Each character takes up one byte. Most web hosts offer web space in megabytes - one megabyte is roughly equal to 1 million bytes.

Usually the actual HTML of your website is quite small - it is the extra images, downloads, emails, and what not that takes up your disk space.

What is virtual web hosting?

Virtual web hosting is the most common form of web hosting. This is basically an easy way and economical way to host many users on one server. All resources are shared by everyone on the server. Normally no more then 100 domains would reside on a server.

What are error pages?

Error pages are used to display an error to a user. Customizing error pages are normally simple and are documented in most control panels. Below are common error codes and meanings.

400 – Bad Request
401 – Authorization Required
403 – Forbidden
404 – Missing File
500 – Internal Server Error

What are name servers?

Name servers are what ICAAN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) use to locate the server in which a site is hosted. A server will use 2 – 4 IP (Internet Protocol) address to identify themselves on the Internet. A domain name uses the name servers to lock it to a server, so when a user types in a domain name it is brought to the server in which the name servers belong to

What is dedicated hosting?

A dedicated server is basically the same thing as a home pc. It’s converted into a server and is rented from a provider on a month by month basis. The user as complete control over the entire server and can do as they please with it. This type of hosting is very useful for large companies and websites.

What is dynamic content?

Dynamic content is used to display information from a database or other files on a server. It mainly used to speed up editing of pages. Since a database is used to display the information instead of a file, the information can be updated in one stop and it can then be display on any page that uses that information. It makes running a large web site very easy.

What is FTP?

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to connect to an account or server and transfer files between the two. This is the easiest and most effective way for a webmaster to upload and download files from his/her account. There are many different types of programs that will do this type of connection. Search for FTP on a download site or search engine. Most are free and very easy to learn.

What is MySQL?

MySQL is a database that is utilized by different programming languages. It works like a filing cabinet for information. It’s an easy and efficient way to organize information.

What is PHP?

PHP is a web programming language. Normally used to create dynamic content or elaborate web programs to manage different aspects of a site. PHP is a recursive acronym that means; PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.

We have upgraded our server to use Apache 2.2 and together with php 5.2.5 for the ease of everyone. This upgrade is made because of the stopping of the development on php 4.x end of this year. We just want to ensure our clients will have a good product from us.

Due to power supply problem on one of the rack in netmyne datacenter, we need to move our server to new IP range. There will be short down time within 8pm-11pm GMT +8 prior to IP changing on our dns server. Therefore we want to apologize for any inconvinience occured.
